The purpose of this project was to find and research a problem relating to the theme of boundaries and to explore ways of solving that problem with design. My research problem was our boundaries with technology, particularly our mobile devices. I created an app that tracks your daily mobile device usage. With the popularity of self-tracking apps and data visualizations and of course smart phones, I thought by combining all these aspects into an app it could address the issue of excessive device usage. My app tracks your usage and displays it in information graphics, the user is then able to see how often they are using their device and do with that data what they wish (whether it be improving their usage or just keeping track of it). My design approach behind this project was usability. I wanted to design an app that was easy to use and informative as well as fun and interesting to look at.
